Contribution of the Chinese Meridian Project to space environment research: Highlights and perspectives

Abstract The Chinese Meridian Project (CMP) is devoted to establishing a comprehensive ground-based monitoring network for China’s space weather research. CMP major national science and technology infrastructure project with the participation of more than 10 research institutions universities led by National Space Science Center Academy Sciences. planned be constructed in two phases: phases I II. first phase (CMP-I) started construction 2008 completed 2012, after which it entered operation stage. 10-year observation CMP-I has made significant scientific discoveries achievements fields middle upper atmospheric fluctuations, metal layers mesosphere lower thermosphere, ionospheric disturbances irregularities, geomagnetic disturbances, influences solar activity. review summarizes main observations achievements, forecast modeling methods based on over past years, presents future extension perspective along CMP-II.
